Sustainable Food Systems

Students enrolled in the Center for Continuing and Professional Education’s Sustainable Food Systems certificate will complete three courses and receive 11.7 continuing education units as well as a Certificate in Sustainable Food Systems.

This program provides students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to establish and maintain a small business in farming or food processing. Students will choose to pursue one of the two available farming tracks: sustainable farming practices or food processing.

Students in the sustainable farming practices track will take a 14-week field experience course in sustainable farming practices where they will learn what is required to own and operate a small farm. Students in the food processing track will be provided with a 14-week field experience in food processing where they will learn what is required to safely add value to raw produce by making it more attractive to the customer. All students will complete a comprehensive agribusiness planning course as well as a course in digital marketing.

The certificate program in Sustainable Food Systems is designed for people seeking either undergraduate academic credit (for-credit) or continuing education (non-credit).
